Having given specific commands to different groups of people within the church, now Peter concludes by stating that every Christian, every “elect exile,” is called to serve and bless others. Each of us is to submit to Christ as Lord in our own hearts. Out of that, we are called to love one another within the church. Even when we are hurt. And when someone reviles us, we are to walk in Jesus’ footsteps, not reviling in return, but blessing. This is impossible apart from God’s grace renewing us daily and the power of the Spirit within us.
