Unity and Diversity I: Christianity or Christianities?
When today’s culture looks at early Christianity, they see a Darwinian survival of the fittest competition where the powerful decide what is true and the weak get labeled heretics. Some Christians look at early Christianity and see a nostalgic dream of unity where there were no denominations, and everyone thought and acted the same. This session will explore themes of unity and diversity within the earliest Christianity considering questions such as: Is theological diversity a sign of sin? Does orthodoxy require uniformity? Does diversity mean that every theological position equally valid?
