Sunday Worship: Pentecost (WhitSunday)

This Sunday is Pentecost, or as the old prayerbook calls it, WhitSunday. WhitSunday as in “white Sunday” because Pentecost is one of the main days for baptisms and those being baptized wear white. It is Pentecost because on this ancient Israelite feast day is when God sent the Holy Spirit to the Apostles and all those gathered in the upper room and Peter preached the first great sermon of the Church.

In our Psalter Sermon Series, Pastor Shane will be preaching from Psalm 50 .

The Collect for Pentecost Sunday.
Almighty God, who taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit, grant that by the same Spirit we may judge everything rightly and always rejoice in his holy protection through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Q26: What do you believe when you say, “I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth”?
A: That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and everything in them, who still upholds and rules them by his eternal counsel and providence, is my God and Father because of Christ the Son. I trust God so much that I do not doubt he will provide
whatever I need for body and soul, and will turn to my good whatever adversity he sends upon me in this sad world. God is able to do this because he is almighty God and desires to do this because he is a faithful Father.
