Psalm 2 pairs with Psalm 1 as the “gateway” into the whole Psalter. Psalm 1 opens with “Blessed (happy) is the man who…” and Psalm 2 finishes with “Blessed (happy) are all those who take refuge in him.” The him is Psalm 2 is God’s Son the King and Messiah. This is a Royal/Messianic Psalm. And while David writes this speaking about himself and his son Solomon, the Psalm is fulfilled in David’s distant Son: Jesus. The invitation is for everyone to “kiss the Son” through faith which enables us to serve Him with gladness.
