As Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan, we learn that to love our neighbor ought not invite the question of “who is my neighbor” that we see from the lawyer. Instead, it ought to move us to a place of faith and responsive obedience to Christ who loved us as his neighbor even when we were his enemies. The Good Samaritan offers help and love to a man simply out of faith. The disciples likewise, upon commission by Jesus to go and proclaim the Gospel do so in faithful obedience. Likewise, then, let us consider the love that Christ has lavished upon us in redeeming us and, in response, offer our obedience and love to him.
