11/1/26 Psalm 119:105-128 The Place of the 10 Commandments in the Christian Life

Passage: Psalm 119:105-128
Service Type:

Psalm 119 casts an overarching vision of God’s law how it is for our good…as we OBEY. Now for the Psalmist who wrote this as part of the Old Covenant Community (Israel), it makes more sense. But for us as the New Covenant Community (Church), what does it mean to obey the law? This is one of the most important questions we can ask as Christians. First is to KNOW and BELIEVE that Christ is our salvation: ALL of our salvation, that both justification and sanctification are a gift that He has earned for us by His obedience. And yet, we are saved so that the “righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us” (Romans 8:4). We are called to obey the “moral” law, which is summed up in the 10 Commandments. But in the gift of salvation, we are given a new heart that desires God and His moral law, and we are given the grace to obey by His Holy Spirit. This is how we can pray with Psalm 119 that I love the law of God and it is the joy of my heart.
