Israel did stumble over Jesus being the Messiah. Paul is clear though, that their stumble was not permanent. And It was the means by which salvation came to the Gentiles. And that is not the full story either, as this blessing to the Gentiles is meant to make Israel jealous and one day, they will turn to Christ. The truth of God’s plan is that we need each other.
