12/06/25 1 Peter 2:2-3 The Word of God is the Milk We Need to Grow
Dr. Matthew Bingham of Phoenix Seminary unfolded these verses from 1 Peter about the Bible. The Bible is God’s primary means of grace, that is, the primary thing that God uses to grow us in grace. The Bible is like milk to an infant. The scriptures are necessary, sufficient, highly desirable and nourishing for our life in God. We need the Word as it is the bread that we live on.
This all aligns with Archbishop Thomas Cranmer’s beautiful collect for the day (The 2nd Sunday in Advent).
Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and comfort of thy holy word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
