6/07/26 Psalm 56 God Collects our Tears and Personally Carries Them

Preacher:
Passage: Psalm 56
Service Type:

Psalm 56 was written by David during the time that he fled for his life from Saul and went into the land of the Philistines. He actually fled into Goliath’s home town carrying Goliath’s sword that David used to slay Goliath himself! Needless to say, they seized him and David was “much afraid.” David cried out to God and God did rescue him. But all the words of this Psalm apply even more to David’s Son: Jesus. Jesus wandered without a place to lay his head, was betrayed, denied and abandoned by his closest friends. And Jesus prayed the words of Psalm 56 in trust that his father would rescue him from the grave. In verse 8 of this Psalm, David pens one of the most stunning and beautiful verses in the Bible about how much God was with him, caring for him by collecting his tears into his waterskin that he carries on his person. The Father did this with Jesus’ tears, and for those of us in Christ through faith, he does the same for us.
