Guest preacher, Pastor James Delarato, unfolded Psalm 97 for us. God’s power and goodness are on display throughout this Psalm. His power shown in images of what we might think of as natural disasters such as tornadoes and hurricanes where we are in both awe and fear if we are around or in them. For the Israelites, this imagery connects back to the power of God in Exodus: the 10 Plagues, the Red Sea, fire and cloud in the wilderness and Mt. Sinai. All of this is about the presence of God. His power does speak to His judgment that we all face. But the Psalm moves into his goodness. That He delivers us through Christ so that we can experience His presence, with awe, but no longer fear.
