3/10/2024 Romans 14:1-4 Welcome the Brother Who is Weak in Faith
Moving into chapter 14, Paul turns to matters of conscience and second-tier issues. These issues are often great disrupters to unity in the church. In the context of the Roman Church, which was a mixed congregation of Jewish and Gentile believers, the one who is weak in faith are Jewish believers. Specifically ones who still adhere to aspects of the Mosaic Law, such as the dietary restrictions, despite the fact that Christ has declared all food to be clean. Those who eat are not to despise those who do not, and those who don’t eat are not to judge those who do. Rather, we are all to welcome each as God has welcomed us in Christ.
