In these verses Paul builds on his point that those who are strong in faith with regard to secondary issues have the greater responsibility towards brothers and sister who are weak in faith. He stresses that they are not to cause the weaker go against their conscience, for that would be causing them to sin. Instead they are to be sensitive and defer to the weaker brother and settled convictions. This means letting go of one's freedom for the purpose of another. This is what Christ did.
